A member of the sunflower family. A perennial, native forb with a tall spike of purple flowers that bloom Aug. – Oct. Normally grows 1-2.5 ft. in height and is found primarily on the central plains but can be found at elevations up to 8,000 ft. A long taproot makes this the most drought tolerant of all the gayfeathers. An excellent cut flower.
