Sunflower, Maximillian

A sunflower located in the central United States. It grows from 3-6’ tall and can be distinguished from other sunflowers by the long, narrow leaves (up to 12” long). An excellent erosion control species as the annual stems are produced from rhizomes that form dense clusters and hold the soil. The sunflower attracts butterflies and bees, and provides habitat and cover for birds and small mammals. It blooms from summer – fall and is often used for a hedge or screen because of its height. Can be found in elevations up to 7,000 ft.
